  1. Dear Jeanine, I take it you no longer have a job, if that is the case I am so sorry! Take your time, we will be waiting...

  2. Jeanine,
I'm sorry to hear your news, but if I can encourage you with this...I never look at closed doors as endings, but new beginnings! I just ask the Lord what He has for me now and I enter with excitement. To be honest, you are in a place that I hope to be soon. I have a part time job, but wish to find a way to be able to do what I LOVE on a more full time basis. I rent space in a local shop to sell my goodies and it's what I'm passionate about. I know you've done well on ebay (I bought that sweet cupboard door from you that you blogged about awhile back) Check it out, it's on my blog header. What about selling on etsy and/or renting space in a local shop? You could also be free to do more flea marketing, etc. Do you have any room on your property...even a sweet little shed that you could sell from? I've seen that done beautifully but you'd have to be zoned for business. Lastly remember...the good Lord gave you these passions for a reason...He has a plan. Would LOVE to see you make a road trip out to the Brimfield Antique Show in Massachusetts some time. I'll be your best customer!
    Blessings and peace,
    Karen

  3. Join the "Downsized Club"! I lost my job back in Jan. of this year! but I am trying to do the same as you. I rented a booth in an antique mall and its been holding its own for now. Buying and selling on Craigslist. We are having a huge barn sale in 2 weeks. Annnndddd....still on unemployment! So we're here for ya!
The best part of unemployment....no stress! My job was killing me with stress, to the point of having my dr. telling me to find a different type of work.
I'm a firm believer in "things happen for a reason"!
I cried at first, but it got significantly better.
    Your not ALONE!

  4. Hi Jeanine, sorry for your bad news:(
You have such a fantastic eye and positive side is now you have the opportunity to do what you love to do full time. Embrace your chance and I am sure you will shine:) I also say there is a reason for everything, that something better is always around the corner, maybe this is the time to make your dreams come true? Best wishes from Australia, Tamara.

  5. I believe that you will make the best of the situation. Gear up quickly to do as many shows as you can in the summer. You could maybe do Roundtop in Texas. Buy lots of great stuff just for this show..It’s a long haul, but could be worth it for you.. You will do great. You have loads of energy and good vibes. All of this will work for you...People like you don’t get down, they get going.

  6. Oh Jeanine - I'm so sorry. I remember that same shell-shocked feeling when this happened to me a couple of years ago. Just this morning when I was doing my hair, the thought came to me: "losing that cushy job was the best thing that ever could have happened".

It took awhile to get to this point. I was scared out of my mind for several months, and then it was "ok" but I've just realized that now it's great!

Now I'm able to indulge my love for old things full time, take off at a moment's notice to go look at something that's offered for sale, take road trips. By doing more shows and shopping more shows I've met great new friends, (like YOU!)

We've learned that we can live on much less income than we thought, God has provided everything we need, we can drive older vehicles, and hey, sometimes it feels good to be a slug and not have to bother with hair & makeup!

With your mad talent, you will do great in whichever direction you go. For immediate success I'd suggest listing a few things a day on etsy; small things do well for me there and there's nothing more fun than seeing orders in your inbox every day.

    Hugs to you!

    Jan

  9. So sorry to hear about your job! Happened to my husband - we were devastated but guess what? A BETTER opportunity transpired from it and BETTER pay! We always wonder "why" at the time and later you will look back and see the reason. There's always a reason for everything!

As far as other opportunities, do you live in a big enough community where you could help decorate people's homes? Your displaying and eye is right on! You have the gift. Pass the word to your clients and see where it leads you.

God bless you and your heavy heart!

  10. I am so sorry to hear about your job! You are certainly on the right track to make your passion a full time job! I made the jump in 1984 when I quit my corporate job and have never looked back!

Have a good cry, but think about not taking a blogging break. The girls in blogland can be a great support WHILE you are going through things.

You don't have to have it together for us. we will support you. xo Joan@anythinggoeshere

  12. I'm so sorry, I'm sure it feels like the rug has been pulled out from under you, but we after all are never really in control. It only seems like it for a while sometimes. God has a plan and it is a welcome rest when we can just sit back and watch Him work all things for our good. Often we hesitate to enter the door that we should go through and He has to give us a push...maybe that's what this is. If so it could be the start of a very exciting adventure!! I'm praying God's special blessings for you!

  13. I'm so sorry to hear about your job. :(
But, I think there will be bigger and better doors opening up for you in the future! You are so great with all your shabby ideas. Keep positive and everything will work out for you! Sending all good thoughts your way!

  14. I'm currently jobless in Seattle and I can tell you this: DON'T let it get you down! It's so easy to fall into a depression and so hard to get out of it. Enjoy the outdoors, the sunshine, the trees, the little critters running around. Get up in the morning, make some coffee/tea, make your hubbies lunch and send him off to work. Then take some time for yourself: go take a walk, get out and breathe in the fresh air. Then enjoy planning and cooking dinners every night, try new recipes and new foods. Make it an adventure. Then, if all that doesn't work: Have yourself a MARGARITA!!!! That's what I do! ;-)
Love you lady and keep your chin up, there are plenty of us out here who know and feel your pain but something even better is coming our way!!!
    -Sara.

  16. Jeanine,
I am so sorry to read your news! I am confident that after you take some time to cry and then breathe you will be inspired with new ideas to take you onto your new path.
Change feels like a loss (which it can be) but also an opportunity.
You are soooo talented, and I can't wait to see what you do next. Call if you want to get together.
    Love,
    Jenny

  17. So sorry to hear about your bad news. I do agree with one of your commenters...the door closing is really one opening... you just don't see it yet.

We (as dealers) always say it is not the dealers who rent the booth space who make the money, but the one who rents out the space! :0) Maybe you could open a CHIPPY SHABBY shop and rent out to other CHIPPY SHABBY's or architectural dealers.

You are very good at what you do so I am sure you will be a success!

  20. Hi Jeanine, Darn this stupid economy!! I'm so sorry to hear about your job, but I know you are very resilient and will come out of this just fine!! You are a hardworker and very talented at what you do. Don't do anything too hasty--take your time to let it all sink in. It will come to you in time! Take care of yourself first and worry about the rest later! I agree with some other commenter-don't stop blogging, we'll miss you too much!! Hugs, Julie
