"BitterSweet Goodbyes" Viva la Cottage Closes it's Doors...

   It's been public knowlege for some time now, that Angie McMahon, Owner of Viva la Cottage ~for some 2 decades now, made the decision to "Close her SHOP Doors for Good"...  This past Saturday was Viva's "Last Hurrah" - CeLeBraTing the closing with a SPaRKliNg Festive

 *~* WiNteR WoNdeRLaNd *~* Holiday Market!*!*!

Here I am with Angie ~ saying our "Bittersweet" Goodbyes Last Saturday...

To Me Viva la Cottage was like a "little Anthropologie" up in the quaint resort town of Sister Bay Wisconsin...  Approaching the STORE'S FRONT DOOR - which was almost always open, you were greeted by a wafting essence of some of the BeSt Specialty Soaps & Lotions...  The soothing color schemes of "Creamy-Whites/Yellow/Beige" along with Angie's Talent for Unique Eye-Catching Displays,

  Magically made you want to buy E*V*E*R*Y*T*H*I*N*G!!!

  Unique Jewelry, Designer Clothing, & Just AwEsoMe ViNtaGe F*I*N*D*S ~ 

"Were Extra Icing ON-THE-CAKE" - For Me!*!*!

 This Year's Winter Wonderland 

was a "SpaRKliNg SHaBBy White-Out"

 I bought sooooo many wonderful ViNtaGe Christmas F*I*N*D*S from Carol!*!*!  ~ I'm keeping them a secret till my First HoLIDAy Show at Grayslake Antique Market on NOVEMBER 10th & 11th at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake, Illinois  (I'll be posting MORE details about the Event as the date gets closer...)

**DOOR COUNTY** Wisconsin ~ Just for the DaY!*!*!

EARLY Friday morning Frog Husband & I headed "Up-North" to our most favorite place DOOR COUNTY, WISCONSIN...  We are soooo lucky to be only 2-1/2 hours away!*!*!  We did our usual ~ breakfast at the White Gull Inn, in Fish Creek ~ then on to Viva la Cottage's ViNtaGe NeSt HoLiDay Market...

 The NOVEMBER Scenery was just B*E*A*U*T*I*F*U*L...

 I've always wanted to snap a pic of this sign... TODAY was the day...  LoVe those gorgeous cedar trees...

   Sooooo Door County!*!*!

Although the ViNtaGe HoLiDaY Market hosts just a handful of vendors, the parking lot was quite full, and it most certainly did not disappoint!!!  I came home with some FaB Finds ~ some possibly going to Grayslake Flea  on December 10th & 11th...  (see sidebar for details...)

Our last stop was FRED & CO. in Fish Creek...  I was sooooo lucky to get some "pet 'n purrrr" time with my most favorite Himalayan Cat in the world ~ Everest...  It's a RARE occasion to see him at the store...  Thank YOU Terry!!!

**Door County** Best-Ever Chocolate Cherry MuFFins!*!*!

In the mid 1980's, I opened up a Muffin/Espresso Shop in Boulder City, Nevada - Jeanine's Sweet Treats, Fine Baked Goods, "Hot From The Oven"...   EVERYTHING was baked "From Scratch" - by me...   I lived close enough where I could walk to work - arriving around 4 a.m. each morning...  The Shop being small, I had 5 employees... Most of our business was take-out, although we had tables inside & on the  patio...   I remember my slogan:  "Sit & Eat -OR- Go with your Treat"!!!  I loved what I did, it was a dream come true - but was a slave to my business...  After 8 years of what I nick-named "Muffin Prison" - I Sold the Shop and moved to Wisconsin...  

 These yummy Chocoalte Cherry Muffins are a recent "tweaked" recipe of mine...  YES, I still do bake!!!  

 A couple days ago Frog Husband and I enjoyed Door County - just for the day...  We came home with Schartner's Cherries ~ soooo I just had to bake!*!*!

 Many years back, my friend, Claudia, passed along a ViNtaGe Muffin Tin my way, that had been in her husband's family...  

"1943" Hercules...  I love it because it's extra deep!!! - and think of her fondly each time I bake!!!

 Even though Sweet Treats is long gone, to this day, when I visit Boulder City, Nevada, people STILL recognize me & reminisce about the Bake Shop...  Just a few weeks ago - a customer from years ago, asked for my Apricot Oatmeal Fruit Bar Recipe - to share with her own children now...   Since I Sold the Shop, I've been promising to "write a cook book"...  "Blurb" would make it so easy to do...  Will it happen???  - Hard to Say, nothing in the works just yet...  

375 degree oven

       Spray muffin pan & papers with grease release "Pam"...

  Bake Approximately 25 minutes...

                                           *************

1-1/2 Cups Unbleached Flour

2 Teaspoons Baking Powder       •Sift together, Set 

                                                              aside...

--------------

1/2 Cup Sugar

1/2 Cup Melted Butter                  •Beat together

--------------

2 Eggs                                    •Add to mixture-beat

1-1/2 Teaspoons almond 

           extract

--------------

ADD reserved Flour/Baking Powder Mixture, along with 1/2 Cup Milk, to the sugar/butter/egg mixture - HAND STIR TOGETHER...

FOLD-IN whatever amount of Sweetened Cherries & Mini Chocolate Chips you like!!!

FILL MUFFIN CUPS... Top with white sugar - then powdered sugar...

BAKE...  Remove from tin immediately to a cooling rack...

                                           ENJOY!*!*!

 While we were up in Door County on Tuesday, we hit a fun outdoor Antique/Vintage Tailgate!!!  We didn't fill the car up ~ but we both got some fun things...

As I peer outside my window - The SNOW IS STILL AS DEEP AS MY SHOULDERS... I refuse to let this extra long, hard winter get me down!!!  I'm still going to dream of "Speciality Outdoor Summer Flea Market Shows"!!!  AND as I'm thinking about this, I come to SEE that one of the Outdoor Markets that I sell at, in Door County Wisconsin - IS MENTIONED In the lastest edition of FLEA MARKET STYLE MAGAZINE, 2011 - and so is "ChiPPy!-SHaBBy"!*!*! ~ OMG!!!

 Door County is sooooo special!!!  and so is Angie's Store!!!  It reminds me of Anthropologie!!!  Although the show is small, it has quality dealers such as myself...  It's traditionally held the SATURDAY AFTER 4th of July...  One day only...  Make a weekend of it ~ Shop Door County!!!

 Door County is known for it's CHERRY CROP...  I shop ALL YEAR to find Vintage Cherry items just for this show!!!  And let me tell you - vintage cherry items are hard-to-find!!!  They make a perfect adornment if you have a cottage house on the peninsula...
